As you know, I started last year to render images with DAZ Studio, and because I thrive for quality in everything I do, my works typically take around 10 hours to render.
This is not alone because I use – some would say – insanely high render quality parameters, but also because my computer rig is, although good, quite old.
My actual build is an Intel Core i7-770K CPU on an ASUS Strix Z270F Gaming motherboard, which is not the real problem I would say.
The problem is rather when I bought these parts together with a new CPU cooler and a new case two years ago, I was a bit low on money and could only afford 16 GB (2×8) of DDR4 RAM, which were quite expensive at that time.
As you can see, I neglected to mention my GPU, which is a GeForce GTX 980 AMP! EXTREME from Zotac bought precisely five years ago in December 2014.
Last week one of the bigger online stores for PC parts in Germany had zero-percent financing (without indirect costs), and I could not keep myself in check.
Thus for the next 12 months, I have to pay a monthly rate of 168 €, but will soon be the happy owner of 64 GB (4×16) of DDR4 RAM from G.Skill (RipJaws V DDR4-3200 – same as before), in addition to a much needed new GPU; not only for rendering but also for Star Citizens, as I am a so-called founder of this upcoming game.
The new GPU will be an ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 2080 Ti OC11GB GDDR6 and should be enough to boost my rendering and my Freelancer together with the 64 GB of RAM into new spheres.
Additionally, I ordered a second NVMe SSD from Samsung (970 EVO Plus 2TB) to host my growing asset library, which just has surpassed 1TB.
Hopefully, the SSD and the RAM will fasten the DAZ application a bit, as it often freezes at the moment.
I was hoping to receive everything within my Holiday vacation as I will need to deconstruct the CPU cooler to plug in the RAM modules. Sadly the store informed me a few days ago that my delivery was postponed to the second week of the coming year because of stock problems with the RAM modules.
However, just a few hours ago, I received a new email from them informing me that my order has been shipped, and it looks as if it was shipped complete.
Wish me luck, that it will come in time, right after the Xmas Holidays.
Sincerely
yours,
